Fish fingers food photography
Fish fingers still life photography on a graphic, coloured background – stacked fish finger sandwiches and piles of fish fingers with ketchup cascading down.
This food portraiture style focuses on single items of food, creating interest with light, texture and mouth-watering details and keeping the audience eyes resolutely on the hero subject.
Precise food styling is a key part of this photographic style, with every tiny food element planned, carefully placed and perfectly enhanced for camera. I wanted the food to be stylised, but still something you would want to eat, with fresh, vibrant details such as the green pea purée and glisten of tartare sauce.
The light is bright, sunny and uplifting, casting bold, creative shadow shapes. Shadows are a hero subject themselves and I often capture them separately (to combine in retouching), for the most interesting result in the final image.
